Detailed Daily Itinerary
Day 0: Day 1: Machame Gate to Machame Camp
After a drive from Moshi, you begin your trek at Machame Gate. The trail leads through a lush rainforest where you might spot Colobus monkeys. The day ends at Machame Camp at the edge of the forest belt.
Day 1: Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira 2 Camp
You leave the forest behind and enter the moorland zone. The path becomes steeper as you climb onto the Shira Plateau, offering breathtaking views of Kibo peak and the Western Breach.
Day 2: Day 3: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp
A crucial acclimatization day. You trek east towards the Lava Tower (4,630m) for lunch, then descend to Barranco Camp. This follows the 'climb high, sleep low' rule for safety.
Day 3: Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
You start the day by tackling the Great Barranco Wall, an exciting but non-technical scramble. The reward is amazing views before descending into the Karanga Valley for your overnight stay.
Day 4: Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
The trek continues across the desolate alpine desert toward Barafu Camp. This is your base camp for the summit attempt. You will have an early dinner and rest for the midnight push.
Day 5: Day 6: Summit Day - Barafu to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
Summit push starts around midnight. You trek to Stella Point and finally Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating, you descend back to Barafu and then down to Mweka Camp.
Day 6: Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
A final descent through the forest to Mweka Gate where you receive your summit certificates. After a farewell lunch with your crew, you are transferred back to Moshi or Arusha.
